A guide to armor, weapons/staffs, spells, and more to make your best mage yet.
Stat | Level |
---|---|
Vigor | 9 |
Mind | 15 |
Endurance | 9 |
Strength | 8 |
Dexterity | 12 |
Intelligence | 16 |
Faith | 7 |
Arcane | 9 |
Spells: Glintstone Pebble, Glintstone Arc
Weapons: Short Sword, Astrologer’s Staff, Scripture Wooden Shield
Armor: Astrologer Hood, Robe, Gloves, and Trousers
I recommend taking the Golden Seed keepsake to get an extra flask early on.
Traits To Increase
In early game you should focus your points into Vigor, Intelligence, Mind, and Endurance. 40 Vigor, 60 Intelligence, 55 Mind, and 50 Endurance will be good goals for Middle to End game. Your other stat goals should be 50 Endurance, 20 Strength, 20 Dexterity, 30 Faith, and 30 Arcane. But these other stats can be saved for later. Just shoot for an even distribution of Vigor, Intelligence, Mind, and Endurance early on. (These stat goals are the soft cap for each one, minus Intelligence)
Flasks
Carry more Flasks of Cerulean Tears then Flasks of Crimson Tears. The goal is to be able to kill enemies from a slight distance before you need to worry about HP loss. This can be difficult in the early parts of the game. You’ll also want to get your hands on the Flask of Wondrous Physick as early as you can.
This can be found at the Third Church of Marika, in the eastern portion of Liurnia. This flask can be customized with various Tears to boost your magic attack power. These are some Tears to look out for. ⭐indicates an item highly recommended.

FAQs
What is the best build for a mage in Elden Ring? ›
Glintstone Crowns and sorcery-boosting talismans like the Magic Scorpion Charm and Primal Glintstone Blade can decrease HP and combat stats, so it's up to you how heavily you want to lean towards becoming a glass cannon, and how much you want to invest in combat stats alongside your spells.
How much vigor should a mage have Elden Ring? ›A good milestone is to have between 30 - 40 Vigor before fighting Starscourge Radahn, one of the first major bosses in Elden Ring who can hit incredibly hard.
What is the highest DPS in Elden Ring? ›- 4) Ruins Greatsword.
- Attack Rating = 857 (303 + 554)
- 3) Heavy Greatsword.
- Attack Rating = 874 (349 + 525)
- 2) Prelate's Heavy Inferno Crozier.
- Attack Rating = 918 (332 + 586)
- 1) Heavy Giant-Crusher.
- Attack Rating = 947 (330 + 617)
Players looking to build a melee-focused mage should consider trying the Death Ritual Spear. It is the best intelligence-based spear in Elden Ring and offers high physical and magical damage once upgraded.
Does Strength matter on mage Elden Ring? ›Strength does several things in Elden Ring, it increases your physical damage output, allows you to wield heavier weapons, and increases your equipment load. This means you can wear heavier armor to increase your defense.
What attribute makes magic more powerful Elden Ring? ›Elden Ring is a lot simpler regarding magic compared to other Soulsborne games. However, it is still complicated for new and inexperienced players as they lack FP management and understanding of scaling for mage characters.
What is the best sword for a mage in Elden Ring? ›When combined with the weapon skill, which buffs the damage of your weapon and adds a beam attack to the strong attack, the Dark Moon Greatsword is one of the better choices for a magician's weapon in Elden Ring. The Dark Moon Greatsword is acquired by finishing the Ranni quest line.
What is the easiest class in Elden Ring? ›Vagabond: The Vagabond is arguably the best Elden Ring classes for beginners. Melee builds are generally easy to pick up without having to familiarize yourself with loads of in-game systems, making them great for players unaccustomed to FromSoftware gameplay.
Does Intelligence increase magic damage? ›Intelligence is a stat in Dark Souls III that increases attack damage with Intelligence-based weapons and catalysts as well as increased damage output with spells such as Sorceries and Pyromancies.
Which class is the fastest in Elden Ring? ›
Since they have the highest starting Dex, Warriors can reach 40 or 60 Dexterity slightly faster than other classes. This class also has enough starting Intelligence and Mind to use weaker spells as well. If you want to use fast-hitting weapons for your Elden Ring playthrough, the Warrior is a great choice.
What is the fastest weapon in Elden Ring? ›Daggers in Elden Ring can be somewhat tricky to use effectively. While they are the fastest blade weapons, they tend to lack the range and attack power of other melee options. That said, daggers can still deal quick damage with the right build and land an effective backstab for big damage.
What is the strongest build in Elden Ring? ›A hybrid Dexterity and Intelligence build is arguably one of the strongest builds in all of Elden Ring since you get the power of sorcery and the physical damage of Dexterity, as well as the benefit of having a very fast casting speed as well.
Is mage good on Elden Ring? ›Magic is one of the best damage sources in Elden Ring. As of recent patches, sorcery was buffed even further overall, making any magic builds quite powerful all the way up to the end-game.
Are magic builds better in Elden Ring? ›Magic is something that has become extremely popular within Elden Ring. This is primarily because magic-based builds can make boss fights and challenging content much easier. Playing as a mage allows gamers to deal damage from a distance, which helps a lot in terms of survivability.
What is the easiest build to beat Elden Ring? ›Elden Ring Easy Mode Builds: Sword of Night and Flame
To pull this build off early, I recommend choosing a Confessor, Astrologer, or Prophet for your starting class. The Confessor may be easiest to use due to their generous starting stat distribution, but Prophet and Astrologer aren't far off.
The Wing of Astel is one of a select few melee weapons in Elden Ring that actually features good scaling for Intelligence when upgraded fully. This means that this Curved Sword is a perfect choice for any aspiring battle mage who doesn't want to invest stats in other categories.
Which Elden Ring is best for magic staff? ›The best all-around Elden Ring staff: Carian Regal Scepter
If you want to be the best sorcerer you can be, you're going to need to dump a ton of levels into intelligence: 60, specifically, to use this staff. The Carian Regal Scepter is a reward for defeating Rennala, one of Elden Ring's five major bosses.
